So I'm hanging out with a friend of mine on her bed and I comment on how much I prefer beds that have no box-spring and are just a mattress on the floor.

Now I'm like most other people and enjoy xkcd and I recall this comic:

Remembering this comic I come to the the obvious conclusion: I am an adult! I live on my own! I can do whatever I want and by God I should totally get rid of my bed-frame and put my mattress on the floor just like I'd prefer.

However, my bed-frame is too big and too difficult to fit through the doorway to actually be thrown out of my apartment. This means that due to a stupid chance of events (ie the person before me just happening to purchase this particular bed-frame which is difficult to move) I can't live out my childhood dream of just having a mattress on the floor. At least not quite yet. . .

Damn you universe! *Shakes fist*

Jellyfish

So old project done... the new one is gonna be done in layers, lots of layers. The one above is a test I'm doing with an old image that i've painted over in oil (it's only like 2 layers in, so consider it to be a serious WIP). I have 3 small wood panels in the works, I photographed them, but they're only 4 layers in, so I'll show you what they look like when they're farther along I think. Here' one with 2 layers on.

ALE ALE JANDRO! ALEJANDRO!

Drew this in Art and New Tech.

MISS YOU!!!!

Ira Glass' good advice

I just remembered this awesome clip of Ira Glass giving a kind of universal pep talk to anyone frustrated with their artistic practice. I found it very motivating back in first year. He talks about the importance of productivity and deadlines for people doing creative work.

So I guess that's kinda what I'm trying to do with this blog. Though it's mostly links right now, I kind of want it to turn into a collective creative instigator. A place to motivate us to produce material no matter how good or bad and share it with the group. A place where inactivity *coughcourtneycough* doesn't go unnoticed and we keep each other on our toes.

Just a thought. This will be whatever it turns into and that's cool too. Am I still making sense? I guess it's bed time...

I enjoy the self referencing use of media in these sculpture works by Kelly Mark.

Also, this blog in general makes me kinda wish I had taken more sculpture studios.

Songs from the Second Floor

It's this dark Swedish film, by Roy Andersson, that we screened in my drawing studio this morning (we were drawing blind contours of the entire movie). It's appropriately labeled as a "film poem" and "tragicomedy" by Wikipedia. The pacing is quite slow but it's well worth it I think. I found myself forgetting to draw as I became mesmerized by the lonely, weirdly funny beauty of it.

Don't watch this on a first date.

Prophetic dreams

Oh Hai interwebs.
Haven't posted anything in awhile so heres a work in progress shot of my (now finished) painting. Must admit I was a little more than upset (and cranky) when I found out that we were not having a crit at all.

Untitled Patternscape

My first finished painting of the semester. I need to come up with better titles..

dilly dali

i went to a moustache and sunglasses party last nite with facial hair that would maybe make dali proud then comment on how he dreamt up the whole party and that this isn't even reality because you can't silmultaneously exist in two states of consciousness, who cares, smoke cigarettes.  wow is that a melting clock overthere?

VODKA

that party was one of the highlights of a rather hilarious day.
i am working on tons of stuff right now for an art show that my aunt is hosting on october 15th in elmvale, ontario (not elmvale by ottawa, elmvale by springwater twsp)  it's good except i need to start paying more attention to my actual studio classes.  i started a really huge drawing today for monday morns' studio, tho.
see:

NASCAN HUMDINGINGHUMMINGBIRD

it's a baby blueprint right now.

i should probably go to the studio, but my glass isn't empty yet.
